Wangaratta sits nervously after the flooding crisis

Wangaratta sits nervously after the flooding crisis
Well we have survived the worst of the flooding crisis here in Wangaratta, and many residents are now faced with the ramifications of expecting the damage its caused to their properties. Costs are expected to exceed thousands, possibly millions of dollars, but only time will tell as the waters are now slowly receeding. It has been an anxious week for many of our families and staff members as they sat through many community meetings and were asked to evacuate their properties.

Here are some of the pictures of our flooding week!

Ballet

Last Friday 13th August all grade 5/6's participated in numerous Ballet activities thanks to the fantastic organisation done by Miss C. Now you may think Ballet is all about dancing, but let me tell you it's just so much more. If you love footy or any other sport Ballet will not only help your physical stamina, balance, posture, but also give you a healthy and clear mind to achieve the very best you can. Some of us even surprised ourselves!

Wangaratta West Public Speaking Competition

Two weeks ago Brianna and Lara competed in Wang West's Public Speaking Competition. This was the very first time the competition was held at the school. Both girls were required to reseach and present a 4 minute speech about a non for profit organisation. The main idea was for the two girls to market the organisation to a particular audience and talk about the impact it plays in our community.

They were then asked to present their speeches at our assembly. Both girls did a fantastic job. They each received a certificate and a book voucher from our local book store.

Fitness and Gym

As part of our Health and Wellbeing unit this term, grade 5/6P is learning all about the importance of keeping fit, exercising and healthy eating. Each week two fitness instructors from YMCA come to Wang West and run 30 minute lessons, comprising of various fitness activities such as, sprints, boxing, tug a war, hurdles, sit ups, push ups and agility runs. Our Gym programme started yesterday. We had to do hand stands, rolling, bear walks, pencil bounces, front support rolls, tuck sits and soldiers. We had such a great time. Take a look at our video clip!

Our very own Grand Prix Race.

5/6P is currently in the stages of constructing their Billycarts with the help of Mr. B. We were allowed to form our own groups of 5 people and then had to draw a team name out of a hat. We are constructing our cars today after considerable discussion and thought to what design we would devise and what materials would be required. Stick around for the photos in our next update. In the last week of term we will be racing against each other on our school oval based around the actual Australian circuit. We are all so excited, and may the best team win!! Stay tuned for our next post.

Grand Prix

Timo Glock!

Classification:
I am doing my information Report on Timo Glock. Timo Glock is not that well-known Worldwide. He is a Formula 1 diver for the Virgin racing car team.

Personal details:
Timo Glock was born on 18th of March 1982, in the town of Lindenfels, Germany. He weighs 64kg and he is 1.69m tall. Timo Glock has a new girl friend. Her name is Isabell. She is German.

History:
In 2004 Timo signed a contract at Jordan to race in his first Grand Prix, the Canadian Grand Prix. He finished 11th but he gained 7th place after the disqualification of the Williams and Toyota cars.

During 2005-2007 Timo did not enter any Grand Prix’s.In 2008 and 2009 Timo signed a contract at Toyota, but he was still under a test driver contract with B.M.W. In November the CRB said that he could race with Toyota. He finished 4th at the Canadian Grand Prix. Then qualified 5th at the Hungarian Grand Prix and finished the race 2nd just behind world champion Kimi Raikkonn. He finished 4th in the Singapore Grand Prix. In the Final race of 2008 Glock finished 6th in the Brazilian Grand Prix and 10th overall in the World Champion Ship with 25 points.

Glock started well in 2009 being in the top 10 in all 3 practise sessions in Australia. He finished 4th, but Lewis Hamilton was disqualified so Glock finished 3rd in his first race. In Malaysia he finished 3rd. In Bahrain Glock qualified 2nd, but finished the race 7th. At the Singapore Grand Prix Glock qualified 6th and finished the race 2nd just behind Lewis Hamilton in first place. In the Japanese Grand Prix Glock had a very big crash, he had cracked a vertebrae in his back and had a leg injury, and had to be airlifted to hospital.

On 11th of October 2009 Toyota confirmed that a test driver, Kamui Kobayashi will replace Glock for more than 3 races or more.In 2010 Glock signed a contract to race with Virgin.

Fitness:
You have to keep fit to race in Grand Prix’s. These are some of the things that keep Timo Glock fit-he does Weights, Swiss ball press ups, Swiss ball balancing, low impact aerobic exercises, over arm pull ups, running and cycling. His running covers 10 miles a day and the cycling covers 30 miles a day.

Conclusion:
In Conclusion, Timo has a good chance of winning the 2010 Australian Grand Prix because he has finished second twice and third once. He is a good driver because he exercises a lot and tries his best all the time.

Australian Grand Prix

Our first unit of study this year is all based on the fun, thrills and spills of an international event, the Grand Prix! The students and I are so excited to be learning about all the different countries that compete in this race. We will also be looking at the currency associated in each country, geographical understanding, time differences, cultural traditions and much more. But the most exciting thing of all will be our excursion to the actual GRAND PRIX in March! WOW! We will keep you posted in weeks to come.
